WINSTON-SALEM — Two Wake Forest Baptist Health emergency medicine physicians, Manoj Pariyadath, M.D., and Jennifer Hannum M.D., were invited to attend the Super Bowl LV by the NFL.

Among 7,500 healthcare workers who have also received invites, Pariyadath and Hannum expressed their excitement for the upcoming game in a virtual interview call on Webex on Feb. 4.

The physicians met 10 years ago when they trained at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Them and eight other friends have kept in touch throughout the years and see each other every February. It happened to work out that the Super Bowl is taking place the same month and they can reunite there.

The safety precautions for the game played a big role in the health workers’ decision to take the invitation.

“We felt good about it and they’re supplying masks for anyone who is going,” Hannum said.

“Safety was definitely on our minds,” said Pariyadath.

The NFL has mandated that all health care workers who were invited have been vaccinated for COVID-19.
