Vannoy Ribbon cutting

Ashe County Chamber of Commerce members and others celebrate the ribbon cutting at Vannoy Properties in downtown West Jefferson June 12.

WEST JEFFERSON — Vannoy Properties saw several dozen visitors stop by its new office at 9 E. Main Street during the company’s Ashe County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Wednesday, June 12.

Among those who stopped by Vannoy Properties’ new West Jefferson location were members of the Ashe County Board of Commissioners and West Jefferson Board of Aldermen, along with Ashe County Chamber of Commerce members and other friends of the business.

The company moved out of Jefferson Landing to East Main Street to be more accessible for the general public, according to Broker In Charge Josh Johnson.

“We’re trying to open up our arms to the community as a whole and bring more people in,” Johnson said. “If you all need anything from us, we’re more than happy to help you.”

Brokers at Vannoy Properties have more than 70 years combined experience as realtors in the High Country, and the company hopes to add more brokers in the near-future, according to Johnson.

“We’re all local, been in the area our whole lives, born and raised,” Johnson said. “we’re experienced. We’ve all been doing real estate for a long time.”

Vannoy Properties services all of Ashe, Watauga and Avery Counties, as well as Jefferson Landing and parts of southwest Virginia, Johnson said. Including Johnson, Christy Barr and Jimmy Miller are the other two brokers, and Michaela McElhaney is the office manager.

“We’re here to service and help people any way we can,” Johnson said. “We look forward to having people come down and talk to us. If you need help with real estate, give us a call.”

At the ribbon cutting, visitors browsed the freshly renovated real estate offices, picking from a spread of beverages and hors d’oeuvres.

Ashe County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kitty Honeycutt said the attendance at Vannoy Properties on June 12 verged on record-breaking for Ashe County ribbon cuttings.

“A lot of people, tremendous support, and that’s always exciting — it shows you how much the Vannoys are appreciated and respected for so many people to come out,” Honeycutt said. “They’ve been in business a long time, and they’ve been located behind the gates of Jefferson Landing, so it’s making them more accessible, more visible and we’re thrilled to have them in downtown West Jefferson.”
