How To Identify A Natural Gas Leak Smell - Natural Gas Has a Rotten Egg, Sulfur Smell See - Natural Gas Leaks Could Cause Dead Vegetation, Could Blow Dirt into the Air, or Cause Bubbling in Pools of Water Sound - Natural Gas Leaks Cause a Hissing or Roaring Sound If You Suspect A Natural Gas Leak Leave the Area Going Upwind Do Not Use Anything that Could Cause a Spark Once Away From The Area, Call Frontier Natural Gas Company Do Not Attempt To Find Or Stop The Leak Hazards Associated with Natural Gas Leaks Explosion or fire is a result of uncontrolled burning of natural gas. Improper gas pressure, gas/air mixture, or ventilation can lead to uncontrolled burning. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous byproduct of incomplete combustion of natural gas. It is colorless and odor- less. Visual indicators include black soot, condensation on windows, and a yellow natural gas flame. If CO poisoning is suspected, emergency personnel should be contacted immediately. Natural gas is non-toxic; however, it can cause death by asphyxiation in confined spaces.
