Details for General Assignment Report

General Assignment Reporter

The Avery Journal-Times is seeking a general assignment reporter with a passion for community journalism. The right candidate will be a team player within The AJT, as well as the additional community papers of Watauga and Ashe counties that comprise Mountain Times Publications. MTP, centered in Boone, N.C., covers three counties, Ashe, Watauga and Avery, with the newspapers of record in each area. While this position is Avery County-centric, there will be opportunities to write for each of our newspaper publications, as well as our seasonal tourism products. In addition, the position offers a rewarding news environment and a unique opportunity to tell the diverse stories of Avery County and its people.

The AJT seeks an aggressive reporter, but also a writer that knows how to tell a story both in print and online, as well as promote these stories through social media. The reporter will cover a variety of areas, including local government, community news and events, and feature writing, as well as work directly with online presences and social media platforms. Position is full-time with available health, dental, vision, paid time off and life insurance benefits.
