The Ashe County Arts Council will host a Madrigal Dinner on Friday and Saturday evening, Nov. 16 and 17 at the Jefferson Landing Club. Twelve performers will entertain with a meal catered by Chef Mathieu.
Madrigal dinners are an American form of theatre that is often held during the Christmas season. It is usually set in the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. The evening includes a meal, music and performance.
The evening officially starts at 6 p.m. with the meal interspersed with music and choral selections. The songs, solos, duos, trios and instrumental selections will be both secular and sacred music of the season. The Jefferson Landing dining room will be decorated with period décor, candles and banners, all in an old English castle style.
The meal catered by Chef Mathieu will start with a selection of fruits and cheese, a mixed green salad, pot roast with carrots and potatoes and finished with a holiday plum cake. Various holiday drinks will be available.
The performers include: Michael Bell, Anthony and Courtney Benson, Joe Clark, Jan Gambill, David Hoffman, Jane Lonon, Gilly Macknee, John and Jane Maddocks, Becky Marsten, Carolyn Trinkle and Jef, the court jester.
