WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County Republicans gathered for their monthly meeting in Sweet & Savory Bakery & Deli at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, ahead of the party’s county convention March 2.

Weather postponed the Republicans’ Feb. 19 meeting, pushing it one week closer to the county convention. About 17 party members attended the meeting, including Ashe County Board of Commissioners Chair Todd McNeill, Commissioner Paula Perry and Sheriff B. Phil Howell, who provided updates on recent discussions at board of commissioners meetings.

Also during the meeting, the party discussed final plans for its county convention, voting in tandem to send a set of 10 resolutions to be approved at the Ashe County Republican Convention March 2, ranging in subject from a resolution calling for congress to balance the federal budget, to a resolution opposing current or future free trade agreements. The Republicans also named party members to the nominations committee ahead of the convention, and heard a report from the party treasurer.

The next meeting of the Ashe County Republican Party will be March 19.
