JEFFERSON — The first-ever New River Father’s Day Kayak Race will raise funds for Camp New Hope from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 16, according to Kathy Hudspeth of Zaloo’s Canoes, Kayaks and Tubes.

“Zaloo’s Canoes is hosting this kayak race fundraiser for the benefit of Camp New Hope, a non-profit ministry hosting families with terminally ill children,” Hudspeth said in an email. “First, second and third-place prizes will be distributed.”

Participants will park at Zaloo’s and be shuttled to the race start point at the low-water entrance bridge to Camp New Hope, according to Hudspeth. Check-in time begins at 1 p.m., and racers in a variety of divisions can enter the water between 2 and 5 p.m.

There are 5-mile adult runs — single or tandem — and 1-mile runs for kids accompanied by adults, with varied minimum entry donations depending on the category. All donations are for the benefit of Camp New Hope, Hudspeth said.

To register for the race, call Zaloo’s at (336) 246-3066.
