Kayaking the New River

GLENDALE SPRINGS — The inaugural Father’s Day Kayak Race down the South Fork New River from Camp New Hope to Zaloo’s Canoes raised money for the nonprofit children’s camp the afternoon of Sunday, June 16.

Winners of the five-mile race are as follows, according to Kathy Hudspeth of Zaloo’s Canoes: first place — John Cherry of Granite Quarry, with a time of 40 minutes; second place — Shaun Turlington of Todd, with a time of 52 minutes; third place — Guy Gunn of Greenville, with a time of 57 minutes.

“Thank you to all who participated,” Hudspeth said. “If you were unable to participate in the race, please consider a donation to Camp New Hope.”
