High Country muralist John Pipes prepares a grid along the west wall of the Ashe Pediatrics building on East Second Street Wednesday, July 10.

WEST JEFFERSON — High Country muralist John Pipes has painted a blank slate along the west wall of the Ashe Pediatrics building on East Second Street.

Pipes, of Meat Camp, said he is painting a new 40-foot wide by 20-foot tall mural for youth literacy nonprofit Imagination Ashe, using specialty spray paint as his medium.

“This one’s for the kids,” Pipes said.

According to Pipes, the Imagination Ashe mural should be done in a matter of weeks, depending on the weather.

Following his work on the Ashe Pediatrics building, Pipes said his next mural project will be at Boondocks Brewing.
