The following information was provided by Appalachian Health Care. Lodgings are inspected once per year and restaurants are inspected one to four times per year, based on assigned risk frequency.

June 25

Osaka, located at 1400 Mt. Jefferson Road, received an “A” grade and a final score of 92.5. The restaurant received a one-and-a-half-point demerit for unsanitized food-contact surfaces, a two-point demerit for living and dead roaches on the premises, a one-point demerit for a dead roach in/on pan of crab, a one-point demerit for needed maintenance, a one-point demerit for unclean non-food-contact surfaces and a one-point demerit for unclean and unmaintained physical facilities. Osaka received an 85 and a 90 in its previous two inspections.

June 27

Freeborne’s Lodge, located at 14300 N.C. 18 South in Laurel Springs, received an “A” grade and a final score of 96. The lodging received a two-point demerit for required cleaning and a two-point demerit for physical facilities needing maintenance. This is its first inspection.
