The following information was provided by Appalachian Health Care. Seasonal swimming pools are inspected once per year, public school lunchrooms are inspected four times per year and food stands are inspected one to four times per year, based on assigned risk frequency.

May 24

Jefferson Landing Pool, located at 332 East Landing Drive, received eight demerit points. The seasonal swimming pool received four demerits for not having a spark pump basket, two demerits for a leaking chlorinator basket and two points for required restroom upkeep. Jefferson Landing Pool received 10 and 8 demerit points in its previous two inspections.

May 29

Ashe County High School Cafeteria, located at 184 Campus Drive in West Jefferson, received an “A” grade and a final score of 98. The public school lunchroom received a one-point demerit for food package integrity and a one-point demerit for required equipment maintenance. Ashe County High School Cafeteria received a 98 and a 98.5 in its previous two inspections.

Mike’s Community Mart, located at 203 Beaver Creek School Road in West Jefferson, received an “A” grade and a final score of 94. The food stand received a two-point demerit for not having a certified food protection manager, a one-and-a-half-point demerit for unsanitary non-food contact surfaces, a one-and-a-half-point demerit for improper date marking a disposition and a one-point demerit for equipment needing repair. Mike’s Community Market received a 95.5 and a 96 in its previous two inspections.
