Mayor Lightfoot runs meeting

JEFFERSON — After being the first to file for municipal elections 2019 on July 5, incumbent Lansing Mayor Dylan Lightfoot withdrew his candidacy for re-election Tuesday, July 16, according to the Ashe County Board of Elections office.

During a phone call July 17, Lightfoot said withdrawing was a difficult decision he had to make for personal reasons.

"I've got to focus on other things in my life," Lightfoot said. "I've got to put my energies elsewhere.

With Lightfoot's withdrawal, there are no candidates for Lansing Mayor as of 3 p.m. Wednedsay, July 17. The filing period ends at noon Friday, July 19.
