WEST JEFFERSON — The Ashe County Public library’s parking lot expansion is nearing completion, with just the paving left on the schedule.
According to County Librarian Suzanne Moore, the landscaping and wall have been completed, with the weather really being the final obstacle. Shatley Paving will be laying down the parking surface, which the library has always hoped to be done by the start of Christmas in July.
The project has been in the works for nearly one year, with Moore initially proposing the project to the West Jefferson Board of Aldermen in July, 2018. Months of back-and-forth between the library, town and county finally ended with the three agreeing to split the $50,055 price tag.
Construction began May 6, and the project will add 14 spots to the lot.
