JEFFERSON — Ashe County residents have until noon Friday, July 19, to file for candidacy in municipal elections 2019, joining the 10 who filed for the county’s three town boards as of Tuesday, July 16, according to the Ashe County Board of Elections.

In Jefferson, incumbent mayor Bluferd Eldreth filed for re-election July 10, followed by Mike Spencer, who filed to contest the incumbent mayor’s seat July 15, the board of elections said.

Also in Jefferson, incumbent alderman Charles Caudill filed for re-election July 9, according to the county board of elections office.

For Lansing elections, incumbent alderman Jim Blevins filed July 9, joining incumbent Lansing Mayor Dylan Lightfoot and appointed alderman Tom Richardson as candidates in the town’s municipal races.

For the West Jefferson Board of Aldermen, Grant Price filed July 11, appointed incumbent Rusty Barr filed July 15 and Jeffery Caudill filed July 16.

Former West Jefferson Alderman Tom Hartman submitted his candidacy for the position of West Jefferson Mayor July 8.

Candidates may file at the board of elections office on the second floor of the Ashe County Courthouse.

There are two town board positions, plus the mayor’s seat open for election in both Jefferson and West Jefferson, and three town board positions, plus the mayor’s seat open for election in Lansing, Ashe Post & Times previously reported.
