Fulton Reeves Road bridge remains

Flood damage has closed the low-water bridge on Fulton Reeves Road to be closed for repairs through June 28, according to NCDOT.

LAUREL SPRINGS — The low-water bridge over South Fork New River on Fulton Reeves Road was all but washed away by flooding Sunday, June 9, and will be closed through June 28 for repair, according to NCDOT Bridge Maintenance Supervisor Chad W. Cox.

“The road will be closed just at the bridge, about 1.5 miles from the U.S. 221 side, and about 2.5 miles from the JE Gentry Road side,” Cox said in an email. “Traffic will be able to use the road on each side, but won’t be able to cross the river bridge from one side to the other.”

NCDOT will be replacing the bridge’s steel-I beams and deck, according to Cox. Traffic backup caused by the closure is expected to be medium, and the bridge closure will be continuous through June 28, according to NCDOT documents.
