WEST JEFFERSON — The West Jefferson Board of Aldermen decided which of them would become the new Mayor Pro Tempore at its monthly meeting Monday, June 3. The appointee replaces Brett Summey, who died May 16 at the age of 83 and had served as Mayor Pro Tempore since 1996.

The Mayor Pro Tempore essentially acts as a fill-in mayor should something cause the need for it. Mayor Dale Baldwin said he asked Alderman John Reeves to take the role before the meeting, with Reeves having no objection.

The board voted unanimously in favor of Reeves’ appointment. Reeves also serves as chairman of the town’s Planning Board and Board of Adjustments.
