The following wreck reports have been released by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Ashe County.

May 30

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 7:58 a.m. on N.C. 194 near Lansing. According to the wreck report, a 2017 Ford, driven by Dawn Y. Prado of Lansing, traveled south on N.C. 194 and struck a deer in the roadway. The estimated cost of damage to the vehicle was $2,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.

May 31

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:36 p.m. on N.C. 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2008 Mazda, driven by Hermann P. Metzler of Raleigh, was stopped facing north on N.C. 16, while a 2009 Dodge, driven by Morgan L. Edwards of Piney Creek, traveled north on N.C. 16. The Dodge failed to reduce speed and struck the Mazda in the rear. The estimated costs of damage were $2,500 to the Mazda and $2,000 to the Dodge. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Edwards was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.

June 2

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 12:48 a.m. on N.C. 194 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2006 Chevrolet, driven by Bridger L. Cherry of West Jefferson, traveled west on N.C. 194. The vehicle made a right turn off U.S. 221 onto N.C. 194, losing control and traveling across the centerline. Continuing off the left shoulder, the vehicle struck and came to rest against a guardrail. The estimated cost of damage to the Chevrolet was $15,000, and the vehicle was considered drivable. Cherry was issued a citation for exceeding a safe speed.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 1:50 a.m. on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2018 Toyota, driven by Cody A. Garn of Creston, traveled west on N.C. 88. The vehicle traveled across the centerline and ran off the left shoulder. The vehicle then came back across the centerline, off the right shoulder, struck a mailbox and overturned. The estimated cost of damage to the Toyota was $17,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 12:58 p.m. on N.C. 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2008 Ford, driven by Andreia N. Langley of Chilhowie, Virginia, traveled south on N.C. 16. The vehicle ran off the road on the right, overcorrected, crossed the centerline, departed the road on the right again, overcorrected again, departed the road on the left, traveled down an embankment, collided with several trees and overturned. The estimated cost of damage to the Ford was $10,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Langley was issued a citation for driving left of center.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 7:33 a.m. on N.C. 194 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2005 Toyota, driven by Linda S. Mullis of West Jefferson, traveled north on N.C. 194 and collided with a deer in the roadway. The estimated cost of damage to the Toyota was $2,800, and the vehicle was not considered drivable.

June 4

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 10:34 a.m. on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2014 Toyota, driven by Susan R. Hossier of Warrensville, traveled east on N.C. 88 with a 1995 Ford, driven by George W. Baldwin of Lansing. The Ford was attempting to make a right turn onto a private driveway, and the Toyota failed to reduce speed, colliding with the Ford. The estimated costs of damage were $2,800 to the Toyota and $1,600 to the Ford. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Hoosier was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 7:27 a.m. on Elliott Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2018 Nissan, driven by Virgie S. Lyle of West Jefferson, traveled south on Elliott Road, while a 2017 Chevrolet, driven by James M. Kelly of West Jefferson, traveled north on Elliott Road. The Chevrolet departed the roadway on the right in an attempt to avoid a collision, as the Nissan crossed the centerline and collided with the Chevrolet. The estimated costs of damage were $6,800 to the Nissan and $9,500 to the Chevrolet. Neither vehicle was considered drivable. Lyle was issued a citation for driving left of center.

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:13 p.m. on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2018 Chevrolet, driven by Shannon D. Woods of Jefferson, traveled east on N.C. 88, while a 2001 Toyota, driven by James G. Testerman of Creston, traveled west on N.C. 88. The Toyota was pulling a utility trailer. The trailer came loose from the Toyota and rolled into the eastbound lane of N.C. 88. The Chevrolet then struck the trailer. The estimated costs of damage were $7,500 to the Chevrolet and none to the Toyota. The Toyota was considered drivable, but the Chevrolet was not. Testerman was issued a citation for failure to secure load.

June 6

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 10:01 a.m. on Bill Bledsoe Road near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2005 Subaru, driven by Dakota J. Hendricks of West Jefferson, traveled north on Bill Bledsoe Road. The vehicle departed the road on the left, traveled down an embankment, collided with a fence and overturned. The estimated cost of damage to the Subaru was $4,800, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 3:41 p.m. on U.S. 221 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2000 Ford, driven by Preston C. Mash of Jefferson, traveled north on U.S. 221 with a 2000 Subaru, driven by Sheena D. McNeill of Lansing. The Subaru slowed for traffic and was struck by the Ford. The estimated costs of damage were $1,000 to the Ford and $1,000 to the Subaru. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Mash was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.
