The following wreck reports have been released by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Ashe County.

June 8

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 7:06 p.m. on Bald Mountain Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 1999 Chevrolet, driven by Dalton Z. Lyles, traveled north on Bald Mountain Road. The vehicle departed the roadway on the right and struck a guardrail, then continued on to Calhoun Road and collided with a fence. The estimated cost of damage to the Chevrolet was $3,500, and the vehicle was not considered drivable.

June 9

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:07 a.m. on Nettle Knob Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2001 Dodge, driven by Anthony R. Bedford of Jefferson, traveled east on Nettle Knob Road. The Dodge traveled left of center of the road, down an embankment and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and failed to report the collision. The estimated cost of damage to the vehicle was $1,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Bedford was issued a citation for traveling left of center, exceeding safe speed and failing to report.

June 11

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 11:57 a.m. on Old Hwy 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2013 Harley-Davidson, driven by Alexander T. Klebart, traveled south on Old Hwy 16. The vehicle traveled left of center and off the roadway, then overturned and came to rest. The estimated cost of damage to the vehicle was $8,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Klebart was issued a citation for failure to maintain lane control.

June 12

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 12:53 p.m. on NC 88 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2017 Ford, driven by James T. Miller, traveled north on NC 88. The Ford departed the roadway to the right and struck a ditch. The estimated cost of damage to the Ford was $3,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable.

June 13

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 9:10 p.m. on N.C. Hwy 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2011 Volkswagen, driven by Glenna B. Hillenburg of Jefferson, traveled west on N.C. Hwy 16. The vehicle pulled out from a stop sign in front of a 2004 Chevrolet, driven by Alan L. Baker of Crumpler, heading north on N.C. Hwy 16. The Chevrolet crossed the center line and came to rest on the left shoulder. The Volkswagen came to rest on the right shoulder. The estimated cost of damage to the Chevrolet was $3,500 and $5,500 to the Volkswagen. Hillenburg was issued a citation for failing to yield.

June 14

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 1:02 p.m. on US 221 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 1996 Dodge, driven by Larry B. Dennison Jr., and a 2014 Nissan, driven by Helen E. Henken, both traveled north on US 221. The Nissan stopped for traffic to make a left turn. The Dodge failed to reduce speed and collided with the Nissan in the rear. The estimated cost of damage to the Dodge was $3,600. The estimated cost of damage to the Nissan was $10,000. Both vehicles were not considered drivable. Dennison was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:07 p.m. on Calhoun Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2005 Toyota, driven by Spencer L. Howell, traveled east on Calhoun Road. The vehicle departed the roadway and struck a utility pole. The estimated cost of damage to the vehicle was $4,500, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Howell was issued a citation for failure to maintain lane control.
