Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell is asking citizens to assist the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in locating a vehicle related to the Endangered Persons case of Maria Calderon Martinez and the homicide case of two juveniles out of Alexander County.

Maria Calderon Martinez was last seen on June 14 in the Sugar Loaf Community of Alexander County. The next day, there was a fire at her home where the bodies of her children were found during the investigation. Martinez is still missing.

Juan Carlos Mendez-Pena and a friend, Luis Fernado Sanchez, were last seen on June 14 in the Sugar Loaf Community in Alexander County. Mendez-Pena reportedly drives the vehicle described above.

The vehicle is a dark blue 2009 four-door Chevrolet Silverado bearing North Carolina tag #PFC-9029. This vehicle may be abandoned or hidden somewhere in Ashe County.

Investigators with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office have charged Aviliez Areli Aguirre with two counts of murder in reference to the bodies located at the Sugar Loaf residence.

Residents are being asked to be on the lookout around their properties for the above-described vehicle. The vehicle may be hidden around wooded or seldom-traveled areas. In an effort to preserve as much evidence as possible, investigators ask that anyone who locates the vehicle refrain from entering, touching or even approaching the vehicle.

If you have located the vehicle, or have information about the whereabouts of Mendez-Pena, Sanchez or Martinez, please call the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (336) 846-5600.
