Mr. John Dallas Gentry, 87, of Jefferson, N.C., passed away Monday afternoon, April 1, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Boone Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial followed in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.
The family received friends on Friday from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Gentry was born in Ashe County on March 2, 1932 to the late Floyd and Bertha Lewis Gentry. John served in the United States Army in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After 22 years in the Army, John served his county through military funerals, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Ashe County Veterans Honor Guard. Fishing, hunting, and eating breakfast at Hardee’s breakfast club were things he enjoyed most. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Winfred Gentry.
Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Shirley Wyatt Gentry; one daughter, Pam Edwards and husband Clyde of Davie County; one son, Kevin Gentry of the home; one brother,Tobe Gentry of Jefferson; two sisters, Imajean Stevens and husband Wade of Jefferson, and Wanda Jones and husband Kyle of Kernersville; three grandchildren, Emily Mullins and husband Brad, Rachel Peterson of Spain, and Faith Peterson of Boone; one great grandchild, Gabriel Mullins, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
