By the time you read this, Giving Tuesday will have passed. But, in the spirit of the season, those giving opportunities can’t be limited to a single day.

Currently, the American Red Cross is facing a critical need for blood donors. As with every holiday and severe weather season, donation events stand the risk of being canceled or simply not scheduled at all.

Yet, because the need for blood — a perishable commodity — actually increases during those times, the intersection of low supplies and fewer donation events makes for severe needs such as the organization is experiencing now.

Consider a gift that keeps giving. Find a nearby blood drive at www.redcrossblood.org.

Another significant opportunity to give to those in need is through a donation to the Ashe Sharing Center.

The sharing center provides food to those without enough to eat throughout Ashe County. And who are those? The need extends far and wide to the elderly, children and many low-income families.

Because of this year-round effort, the pantry is continuously in need of donations. For more information or to make a monetary donation, visit www.ashesharingcenter.net.
