Thumbs-up, or down, you decide: Is it the summer season or winter that captures your High Country imagination? The passing of Labor Day, our nation’s unofficial end to summer, is a time for reflection or elation depending upon your personal view. Thumbs-up: to a another successful high-speed downhill race on Mount Jefferson. A well-done to all of our local organizers and volunteers in broadening the scope of this international event.

Thumbs-up: to each graduate of Wilkes Community College’s Division of College & Career Readiness. Celebrating the division’s 40th year, the hard work and dedication of dozens of students will pay off as they prepare to make the next step in their career choices and paths.

Thumbs-up: to those who organized — and those who partook in a slow, meandering journey down the New River. A successful TubeFest not only raised money for Green Valley Community Park, but created another family-fun end-of-summer activity for our community.
