I applaud the GOP for working with the Democrats to find a bipartisan plan for immigration. It is now imperative that that plan be passed in both houses of Congress and, as needed, over a presidential veto.

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr stand at a critical juncture in history. The president is clearly uninterested in governing as a representative of the people, and his racist remarks further demonstrate that Congress must take the lead on governance in this country. Therefore, I implore them to teach the president that he cannot simply brush off Congress.

Congress must pass the bipartisan plan and, if the president vetoes it, override the veto, thereby making it clear that there is a balance of powers in this country, and that collaboration and compromise are how this country advances. I cannot over-emphasize enough that siding with the President on this one will forever tarnish their legacy. Congress must pass the bipartisan plan.
