In the current special session of the General Assembly, our representatives will decide whether to overturn or uphold a veto of two bills that will damage our water quality, SB16 and HB56. SB16 guts safeguards against pollution, loosening water quality rules and limiting local governments’ power over landfill permits. HB56 includes repeal of the popular Outer Banks plastic bag ban protecting sea turtles and other marine life. It weakens protections for riparian buffers crucial to maintaining our water quality. The legislation also fails to address the concerns of families in the Cape Fear region on the GenX contamination.

If you care about water quality, please call Rep. Jonathan Jordan (919-733-7727) and ask that he sustain the vetoes of these bad pieces of legislation.
