ELKIN — The Ashe County tennis team had trouble in Elkin Thursday, March 7, falling to the Elkin Elks 8-1.
“Elkin is undefeated so far this season and have played several matches,” Dix said. “We have had little court time due to the weather, and this impacts our consistency and ground stroke control.”
Ashe County’s fifth seed, Tatum Brown, was the lone winner throughout the matchup with the Elks. Tatum beat Elkin’s Jack Zamudio 6-3 and 6-4 in the singles round. However, Tatum was not so lucky in his doubles match with partner Michael York. Elkin’s Joe Gallion and Jose Zuniga took care of the Ashe duo, winning 8-4.
“I am proud of the way we played under such limited circumstances,” Dix said. “We still had some close matches and could have won more matches if the ball had dropped our way.”
