WEST JEFFERSON — The Ashe County High School Lady Huskies varsity basketball team held onto their undefeated title after an enormous 73-28 win against the Avery Vikings on Dec. 21.

Ashe (9-0) defeated the visiting Vikings (2-7) on their home court, later taking a win on Dec. 23 against East Wilkes, 57-33.

The Huskies took the lead quickly in the first quarter, not letting the Vikings have a chance to catch up. With quick rebounds from the twin-duo Jayden and Jordan Jones and the incredible shots from sophomore Paige Overcash, the Huskies led 20-8.

In the second quarter, the lead only increased as the Huskies made their way up and down the court. Ashe led 38-13.

The third quarter saw only more of the tight teamwork that the Huskies displayed, lined with skillful passes, quick shots and more, coming to a 56-23 lead.

Finally, the Huskies rounded out their 45-point win, leaving the court still undefeated in the non-conference season.
