The following wreck reports have been released by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Ashe County.

April 17

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:27 p.m. on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 1999 Freightliner, driven by William D. Shinn of West Jefferson, traveled east on N.C. 88. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, crossed the centerline and ran off the road to the left. The vehicle then struck a ditch and an embankment, overturning. The estimated cost of damage to the Freightliner was $8,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.

April 18

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 6:24 p.m. on West Mill Creek Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2015 Chevrolet, driven by Anna M. Hurt of Lansing, traveled north on West Mill Creek Road, while a 2010 Chevrolet, owned by Bradley J. Roland of Warrensville, was parked in the roadway facing north. The driver of the 2010 Chevrolet left the vehicle in the roadway. The 2015 Chevrolet failed to reduce speed and struck the 2010 Chevrolet. The estimated costs of damage were $7,000 to the 2015 Chevrolet and $2,000 to the 2010 Chevrolet. The 2010 Chevrolet was considered drivable, but the 2015 Chevrolet was not. No citations were issued.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 9:45 a.m. on N.C. 88 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2002 Isuzu, driven by Reta J. Winebarger of Lansing, traveled east on N.C. 88. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a ditch and then struck a highway sign. The estimated cost of damage to the Isuzu was $1,000, and the vehicle was considered drivable. Winebarger was issued a citation for failure to maintain lane control.

April 19

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 10:03 p.m. on Old Highway 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2004 BMW, driven by Brandon K. Taylor of Crumpler, traveled south on Old Highway 16. The vehicle lost control, crossed the centerline, ran off the left shoulder and struck a tree. The estimated cost of damage to the BMW was $7,500, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Taylor was issued a citation for exceeding a safe speed.

April 23

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 4:01 p.m. on U.S. 221 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2010 Toyota, driven by Donald O. Robertson of West Jefferson, traveled north on U.S. 221 with a 2001 Ford, driven by Jason C. Emanuel of Fleetwood. The Toyota slowed for a turning vehicle, and the Ford failed to reduce speed, striking the Toyota in the rear. The estimated costs of damage were $2,000 to the Toyota and none to the Ford. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Emanuel was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.

April 24

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 4:03 p.m. on Frank Dillard Road near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2006 Chevrolet, driven by Richard W. Osborne Jr. of West Jefferson, traveled south on Frank Dillard Road. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, crossed the centerline, ran off the road to the left, struck an embankment and overturned. The estimated cost of damage to the Chevrolet was $6,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 12:52 p.m. on U.S. 221 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2004 Toyota, driven by Pamela F. Voynitch of Jefferson, attempted to make a left turn from the parking lot of Dollar General onto U.S. 221, while a 1997 Chevrolet, driven by Eddie R. Walters of Grassy Creek, traveled west on U.S. 221. The vehicles collided in the roadway. The estimated costs of damage were $2,800 to the Toyota and $1,000 to the Chevrolet. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Voynitch was issued a citation for an unsafe turn.
