The following wreck reports have been released by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in Ashe County.

May 21

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 3:04 p.m. on N.C. 194 in Lansing. According to the wreck report, a 2007 Subaru, driven by Jean A. Denny of Lansing, traveled north on N.C. 194, while a 2004 Subaru, owned by Preston S. Holman of Crumpler, was parked facing east in the parking lot of the Lansing Post Office. The 2007 Subaru traveled off the right shoulder and struck the 2004 Subaru. The estimated costs of damage were $3,500 to the 2007 Subaru and $4,000 to the 2004 Subaru. The 2004 Subaru was considered drivable, but the 2007 Subaru was not. Denny was issued a citation for reckless driving.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 10:41 a.m. on Greensboro Road near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2019 Nissan, driven by Jennifer A. Gilbert of Laurel Springs, traveled north on Greensboro Road. According to the driver, as the Nissan approached the intersection of Greensboro Road and N.C. 16, a large concrete truck was attempting to make a right turn from N.C. 16. While making a right turn, the concrete truck traveled wide and crossed the centerline. In an attempt to avoid the truck, the Nissan ran off the road on the right, colliding with a large, deep hole at the edge of the road. The estimated cost of damage to the Nissan was $200, and the vehicle was considered drivable. No citations were issued.

May 23

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 4:09 p.m. on Mount Jefferson Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2008 Nissan, driven by Sandra T. Greene of Fleetwood, was stopped at a stop sign with a 2004 Chevrolet, driven by Lynn P. Rice of Laurel Springs. The Chevrolet started to turn left onto U.S. 221 and was struck by the Nissan. The estimated costs of damage were $1,500 to the Nissan and $200 to the Chevrolet. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Greene was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed.

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 5:12 a.m. on N.C. 194 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2009 Lincoln, driven by James A. Greer of Warrensville, traveled west on N.C. 88. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right and down an embankment, striking a tree. The estimated cost of damage to the Lincoln was $10,000, and the vehicle was considered drivable. Greer was issued a citation for careless and reckless driving.

May 24

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 10:55 a.m. on N.C. 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2006 Chevrolet, driven by Beady J. Hoffman IV of Iron Station, traveled north on N.C. 16. The vehicle crossed the centerline, overcorrected, ran off the road to the right and struck an embankment. The estimated cost of damage to the Chevrolet was $6,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Hoffman was issued citations for DWI, driving left of center and driving while license revoked.

May 25

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 6:04 p.m. on Jarvis Road near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 1999 Ford, driven by Austin C. Miller of West Jefferson, traveled west on Jarvis Road. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a ditch and overturned. The estimated cost of damage to the Ford was $4,500, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. Miller was issued a citation for failure to maintain lane control.

May 26

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 7:03 p.m. on Shatley Road near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2019 Nissan, driven by Rebecca A. Wilson of Manassas, Virginia, made a left turn onto N.C. 16, while a 2016 Toyota, driven by Christina L. Shepherd of Wytheville, Virginia, traveled north on N.C. 16. The vehicle collided in the intersection. The estimated costs of damage were $1,000 to the Nissan and $1,000 to the Toyota. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Shepherd was issued a citation for failure to yield.

May 28

A two-vehicle accident: occurred at 3:58 p.m. on U.S. 221 near West Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2019 Dodge, driven by Scott A. Millman of Fort Mill, South Carolina, traveled north on U.S. 221 with a 1995 Dodge, driven by James L. Hogan of West Jefferson. The 1995 Dodge slowed and was attempting to turn left, while the 2019 Dodge attempted to pass in a marked no passing zone. The vehicles collided in the intersection. The estimated costs of damage were $3,600 to the 2019 Dodge and $2,900 to the 1995 Dodge. Both vehicles were considered drivable. Millman was issued a citation for improper passing.

May 29

A single-vehicle accident: occurred at 6:29 a.m. on N.C. 16 near Jefferson. According to the wreck report, a 2010 Ford, driven by Alycia C. Richardson of Grassy Creek, traveled north on N.C. 16 and struck a deer in the roadway. The estimated cost of damage to the Ford was $5,000, and the vehicle was not considered drivable. No citations were issued.
